🎚️ How to Prepare Your Music Project for Mixing

Client Guidelines

1️⃣ Arrangement & artistic decisions

  • The song must be fully finished in terms of arrangement
  • All parts, harmonies, and elements should be final
  • Mixing is not the stage for changing the song structure

2️⃣ Exporting audio files (stems)

  • Export each track separately
  • All files must:
    • start from 0:00
    • have the same length
  • File format:
    • WAV / AIFF
    • 24-bit
    • 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz

3️⃣ File naming

  • Track names should be clear and logical
    • ❌ Audio_07_final_v3
    • ✅ Kick, Snare_Top, Bass_DI, Gtr_L, Vox_Lead
  • Avoid special characters and spaces if possible

4️⃣ Levels & headroom

  • No clipping on any track
  • Recommended levels:
    • Peaks up to -6 dBFS
  • Do not use limiters or loudness maximizers

5️⃣ Effects & processing

  • Do not add:
    • limiters
    • mastering processing
  • You may keep:
    • creative effects (delay, distortion, modulation) if they are part of the sound
  • If unsure, export:
    • one dry version
    • one processed version

6️⃣ Panning & automation

  • You may keep:
    • basic panning
    • volume automation
  • If they are not essential, it’s better to remove them

7️⃣ Vocals

  • Vocal tracks should be:
    • cleaned from clicks and unwanted noise
    • timing-aligned
    • free of clipping
  • If pitch correction was used, please mention it

8️⃣ Additional files

  • Please include:
    • a rough mix (your vision of the song)
    • 1–3 reference tracks
  • Describe:
    • the desired vibe
    • what elements are most important in the mix

9️⃣ Tempo & technical information

  • Provide:
    • BPM
    • time signature (if unusual)
    • key (optional)
  • Let me know if the song was recorded live

🔟 Final check before sending

  • Make sure:
    • all tracks are included
    • no audio is cut off
    • files open correctly
  • Pack everything into one folder or ZIP file

🔊 How to Prepare Your Track for Mastering

Client Guidelines

1️⃣ Final mix

  • The track must be a 100% finished mix
  • All decisions regarding:
    • balance
    • panning
    • effects
      must be final
  • Mastering does not replace mixing

2️⃣ Exporting the stereo file

  • Export one stereo file
  • Format:
    • WAV / AIFF
    • 24-bit
    • 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz
  • Do not convert sample rate during export

3️⃣ Headroom & levels

  • On the master bus:
    • peak level up to -6 dBFS
  • Do not use:
    • limiters
    • clippers
    • loudness maximizers
  • Leave proper headroom for mastering

4️⃣ Master bus processing

  • Remove:
    • limiter
    • loudness maximizer
  • You may keep:
    • gentle EQ or compression if they are part of the sound
  • If unsure:
    • send a version with bus processing
    • and a version without it

5️⃣ File length & tails

  • Export the file:
    • from 0:00
    • through the full decay (natural reverb tails)
  • Do not cut off the end of the track

6️⃣ References

  • Include:
    • 1–3 reference tracks
  • Specify:
    • desired loudness
    • sonic character
    • target platform (Spotify, YouTube, CD, etc.)

7️⃣ Technical information

  • Provide:
    • BPM
    • key (optional)
  • Let me know if the track is part of an EP or album

8️⃣ Quality control

  • Check for:
    • clipping
    • distortion
    • export errors
  • Listen to the file from start to finish

9️⃣ Additional versions (optional)

  • If you have:
    • alternate versions
    • radio edits
    • instrumental versions
  • Export them as separate files

  • Name the file:
    • Artist_Title_Mix.wav
  • Deliver everything in:
    • one folder
    • or a ZIP archive
